Abstract:
The report covers the evaluation of the Omega Navigation System for aircraft utilization on routes traversing the North Atlantic from the East coast of the United States to Europe. The user equipment was a commercial version of the ANARN-99 which is an automatic computerized Omega receiver designed for airborne use and was installed on a DC-8 type aircraft. The principal areas of interest in this evaluation were operational utility, signal reliability and track comparison with other aids available. The Omega system demonstrated its ability to provide smooth bounded position information in a varying and somewhat limited signal environment due to a transitional transmitter configuration. Author
