Abstract:
A method is presented for determining the effect of gas diffusion and vaporization on the volume flowrate of gas needed to sustain a ventilated cavity. The analysis for the gas diffusion effect is based on a mathematical model of diffusion which accounts for changes in flow velocity, body scale, model geometry, and air content. Experimental studies compare favorably with the analysis. Also, a scaling relationship is proposed for ventilated cavity flows.
