Abstract:

A model for the prediction of maximum target lock-on range for a 1.06 micron laser target designator weapon system where atmospheric attenuation of the laser radiation is the limiting system factor is derived. The laser range equation is based on the assumption of specific designatorreceiver design characteristics, the assumption that the target is a Lambert surface, and the assumption of the validity of the Beer-Lambert Law for describing atmospheric propagation of laser radiation.
