The primary objective of this study is to examine the sensitivity properties of a multilinear plant embedded in a feedback structure. As a prelude the existing linear theory is summarized and extended. The bilinear case is then treated in detail. Extrapolation to the multilinear case is carried out in Appendix B. New results include the following. 1 the use of causality structure as a component of sensitivity analysis in closed loop linear and nonlinear systems, 2 the establishment of terminal equivalence conditions for multilinear plants and multilinear compensators, 3 the development of a sensitivity operator in the multilinear setting including existence conditions, 4 extensions of linear results to large parameter perturbations.
