Abstract:

Two Black Brant rockets were flown from the Churchill Research Range, Manitoba, Canada, to study an auroral zone absorption AZA event. The first payload Black Brant 17.110-2 was launched 24 September 1972 into an AZA event producing 1.5 db of absorption on a 30-MHz polar riometer. The second payload was launched the next day into quiet conditions. Each payload contained instrumentation to measure ionizing sources, the resulting ionization, and minor constituents. Both payloads were developed and instrumented at Space Science Laboratory at Utah State University under contract with Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories. Author
