Abstract:

A method of total trajectory simulation was established which is based on the governing equations of the various phases of an airdrop or recovery system. In view of these equations, a computer program capable of predicting the performance characteristics of a parachute-load system from the instant of initiation to the moment of landing was established. Calculations were performed for a number of different aerial delivery systems. The calculated results fall well within the broad ranges of expected performance, based upon familiarity with field test results. In Volume I, simulation methods and numerical calculation results are presented in Volume II details of the calculation procedures and computer program are presented.
