Experimental Transient and Permanent Deformation Studies of Impulsively-Loaded Rings and Cylindrical Panels, Both Stiffened and Unstiffened.

The sheet high-explosive loading technique was employed to conduct impulsive loading and structural response studies of a unstiffened and stiffened freely-suspended initially-circular rings of 6061-T6511 aluminum alloy and of b unstiffened and circumferentially-stiffened cylindrical panels of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy with all four edges ideally clamped. These specimens have well-defined geometric properties, material properties, and boundary conditions. Impulse calibration tests for the Detasheet D explosive employed provide impulse loading information and small uncertainty. Large transient and permanent deformations were produced. The measured transient and permanent strains as well as the permanent deformation data obtained are believed to provide reliable and definitive data which the analyst may use to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of pertinent structural computer codes for predicting large-deformation, elastic-plastic structural responses of transiently-loaded structures.
