Abstract:

Discharge coefficient and related transonic flow field properties are examined for conical convergent - divergent nozzles with small .05 in. drilled out throat section. Half angles are 30 degrees for convergent section and 15 degrees for the divergent section. A sharp edge throat nozzle is used as a reference configuration. Air at ambient temperature and stagnation pressures from 50 to 1000 psia is the working medium. Measured discharge coefficient data is presented. Color Schlieren images and results obtained from an axisymmetric transonic program are, also, presented. Transonic flow field phenomena are qualitatively compared with measured discharge data.
