Of concern here is the distribution of stress in an isotropic elastic medium containing two external cracks. The two-dimensional plane-strain model in the classical theory of elasticity is considered. The boundary value problem is reduced to a pair of dual integral equations with trigonmetric kernels. Closed form expressions are obtained for a the stress intensity factor, b the normal component of stress on the line of crack and c the crack profile. Author
