Boron carbide ribbon-reinforced titanium composites were fabricated by a masked deposition and lamination process. B4C content was varied in the range 20 - 40 percent, and the ribbon widththickness wt ratio was varied from 120 - 2000. Matrix alloys investigated included un-alloyed Ti A55 and Ti-6Al-4V. The mechanical behavior was examined in the temperature range 70F - 900F. Tensile strength and modulus increased with B4C content, and decreased with temperature. Effective mechanical isotropy was achieved for composites containing uniaxially aligned ribbons with a wt radio 325. Author
