New 13-Atom Bimetallocarboranes Prepared by Polyhedral Subrogation.

The reaction of 13-vertex cobaltacarbonanes, eta-C5H5-CoC2B10H12, with ethanolic postassium hydroxide in the presence of cyclopentadiene and an appropriate metal salt produces new 13-vertex bimetallllocarboranes. These bimetallic products, which may contain identical or dissimilar metals, have one less boron atom than does the original monometallocarborane.
