Abstract:
Air breathing matrix-type phosphoric acid fuel cells are evaluated with propane and cracked or steam reformed methanol. For the oxidation of propane, carbon supported platinum is an active oxidation catalyst, but degradation rates are high. Considerable cell decay is also observed with cracked methanol because of an irreversible deactivation of the fuel electrode. Carbon based electrode and current collector structures are sufficiently stable even under oxidizing conditions in the phosphoric acid fuel cell. Modified author abstract
