The report contains the results of a series of tests conducted to obtain thermal maps of a UH-1 main rotor transmission. The tests were conducted at several torque levels and several stabilized oil-out temperatures. Also, the thermal growth of the transmission cases at selected locations was measured and recorded. The general conclusions of this report are summarized as follows the major heat generating area was the input spiral bevel pinion and its related bearings thermal stability could not be attained at full bypass of the oil cooler at 60 torque thermal gradients indicate that the transmission output mast may be efficiently utilized as a heat sink by pressure wetting the surface.
