A program aimed at synthesizing hydrofluorocarbon-fluorosilicone or - silicone polymers for pressure sealants in advanced aircraft is reported. The free radical catalyzed addition of hydrogen sulfide to vinylsilanes is investigated. The desired mercaptans are found unobtainable and only sulfide formation is observed. A MERCAPTAN-SUBSTITUTED ACETOXYSILANE IS SYNTHESIZED AND CONDENSED WITH DEHYDROFLUORINATED Viton. Combination of this product with acetoxy-functional fluorosilicones is unable to be attempted due to the instability of the product. A low molecular weight dimethylsilicone with mercaptan end-groups is synthesized and used to cross-link dehydrofluorinated Viton. The copolymer formed is not suitable for sealant use. A hydrofluorocarbon-fluorosilicone cocured product is investigated but also found unsuitable for sealant use. Author, modified-PL
