A heat pipe cooled anode for a 10 KW xenon lamp has been designed, fabricated and tested. The heat pipe was designed to operate at 700C and transfer 4 KW from the anode tip to ambient air. The heat pipe cooled anode was designed to be integrated into a 10 KW lamp and give normal arc characteristics. The heat pipe anode was fabricated, processed and tested. The heat pipe anode operated successfully, demonstrating the feasibility of heat pipe cooling of lamp anodes, although some problems were encountered and the heat pipe did not reach full design power.
