The major research efforts of the past year are described. The effect of the spark gap and stray capacities on the operation of a nitrogen laser was analysed. The power from such a laser was increased by a factor of 4 by selecting a matching capacity. A nanosecond standard light source was developed by calibrating a Nanolite in terms of a calibrated DC carbon arc. Results of studies using both a 1 and 5 kilojoule dense plasma focus device are described. Author
