Abstract:

The study consists of three overlapping subprograms. The major subprogram focuses upon questions of how the organization of data in memory affects the acquisition of new information and the usefulness of stored information in response to various tasks. A second subprogram focuses upon the complementary issue of how different ways of encoding the information to be assimilated affects mastery and efficiency of processing. The third subprogram is aimed at bridging the gap between the classical work on memory which is based upon meaningless and simple stimulus materials and the current work on semantic memory. Author
