Abstract:
A new type of electro-fluidic transducer is evaluated, which uses the heat dissipation from an electric coil in a capillary passage to change the viscosity of the fluid passing through the passage. A transfer function for the transducer is developed crudely, and static measurements on two different sized models show good agreement with calculations. The capillary electro-fluidic transducer has high static sensitivity but low bandwidth. Electrical powers of less than 0.100 W may be converted to sizeable fluid signals however, the bandwidth of the transducers tested was only about 1.0 Hz. Author
