Abstract:
The report describes a method for analyzing ASW submarine tactics, which is based on the view that the behavior of the ASW submarine is adaptive i.e., that it is goal-directed, complex, information-dependent, resource-limited, and influenced by both the internal and external environments. Systems exhibiting these dynamic characteristics may be represented by cybernetic models, and their behavior understood in terms of interactions between information and resource flow. This method of analysis is designed to answer three major questions 1 What resources are used to accomplish assigned tasks and missions 2 how are the resources used and 3 to what extent do different resource mixes influence the time and cost of task and mission accomplishment. The method can be used in non-military situations also. Modified author abstract
