Abstract:

The investigation was an attempt to determine 1 the best angle that the plan view display PVD may be inclined while still permitting efficient operation with shrimpboats, 2 the properties of a feasible shrimpboat that will not slide so much as to produce loss of association with the target when used at the proposed angle of elevation, and 3 the properties of a feasible add-on device for fixing the PVD at the angle proposed. Several shrimpboat designs were fabricated and tested at 20, 25, and 30 degrees PVD inclinations, both in ideal conditions and in a simulated control situation with air traffic controllers.
