Abstract:
A method was developed for analysis of atmospheric flows with spatial resolution on the order of a few kilometers and short-range prediction on the order of a few hours. The objective was to evaluate problems associated with development of operational mesoscale numerical prediction in the proposed Army Automatic Meteorological System AMS. The equations of motion are written in generalized sigma relative pressure coordinates with provision for a variable number of levels and a variable top pressure surface. Numerical experiments were performed over very rough terrain covering a domain of almost 150x150 km. Modified author abstract
