The study presents the results of an analytical investigation of the effects of maneuverability on the design of a pure or winged helicopter. The Sikorsky general helicopter simulation and the normal mode blade aerolastic program were used to study the influence of rotor and wing sizing and design characteristics on the obtainable level of aircraft maneuverability. Obstacle-avoidance maneuvers were evaluated at a 150-knot cruise speed at 4000 feet, 95F. Rotor solidity, tip speed and disc loading, as well as wing size and incidence, were varied to optimize the designs for several levels of maneuverability. Modified author abstract
