The United States Air Force USAF annually spends millions of dolalrs for the replacement or repair of aircraft components damaged by bird-aircraft collisions. Since March 1969, the Air Force has had an active research and development program at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory AFWL to reduce the bird-aircraft strike hazard.
