The characteristics of the propagation of internal gravity waves in the ocean, either upward from the bottom or downward from the region of the surface, is of interest to oceanographers because of the implications to the total energy budget of the internal wave field. This report considers the interaction of a plane internal wave train with a diffuse layer embedded in a density profile possessing an otherwise exponential dependence of height.
