Abstract:

Reasonable and consistent approximations are used to reduce the simplified form of the integral equations for the superconducting transition temperature used by Allender, Bray and Bardeen to a very simple, and remarkably accurate, equation for T sub c. This equation is compared with the McMillan equation and found to give just as good agreement with experiment for intermediate coupling materials and considerably better agreement for strong-coupling materials.
