Abstract:
A microwave Fabry-Perot interferometer operating in the 50 GHz region has been analyzed and employed in the measurement of electron densities within a plasma. Both volume perturbation and ray refraction approaches have been applied to determine the practical limits of the system. In the symmetric spherical mirror geometry a mirror separation approaching the concentric configuration proved least susceptible to plasma refraction limitations. After limiting the resonances to the lowest order modes with apertures the general resonance shift was found to agree with calculations when known dielectric perturbations were used. To follow resonance shifts within the plasma chamber where mirror separation could not be varied a swept impatt diode generator was employed. Modified author abstract
