Abstract:

Semiconductor II-VI compound optical waveguide growth is being studied experimentally using molecular beam epitaxy, a closely-controlled form of vacuum evaporation, under ultra-high vacuum. The objective is to generate low-loss single-crystal guides suitable for constructing active elements in optical communications systems.
