Abstract:
The project is concerned with detailed studies on the systematics, bionomics, distribution and vector potential of the mosquitoes of Central America, West Indies and adjacent portions of North America and South America. Its principal objective is to provide basic biological data needed for the rational control of mosquito-born diseases in these areas. During calendar year 1973 no field work was accomplished but 1236 previous collections were processed, with the preparation of 9267 slides of individual rearings, 400 slides of male genitalia, 563 slides of whole larvae and 107 slides of adults. One hundred and two plates of final illustrations were prepared. The revision of the genus Haemagogus was completed, nearly all the preliminary taxonomic work on the composite genus Trichoprosopon was finished and preliminary studies were begun on the scapularis group of Aedes Ochlerotatus.
