Abstract:

The study develops terrain models and reviews historical examples such as Hannibals crossing of the Alps, the war in France in 1940, and the battle at Fredricksburg during the U.S. Civil War to illustrate how significant terrain can be on the outcome of the operation. A conceptural framework is developed to embody the features that should be included in terrain modelling. Several developed models are examined and the rationale of the terrain modelling is explained. Modified author abstract
