A new approach is proposed to solving nonlinear problems of stability and bending in anisotropic plates and shells. The method is based on the use of a precise solution to the equation of strain compatibility. The basic nonlinear equation of bending, containing only one unknown function of deflection, is derived. A qualitative study of the solution to this equation is made.
