Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to assess the potential effects of radiation from Electromagnetic Pulse EMP simulators located at Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, New Mexico, on the FAA Control Tower which is co-located on the Air Base. In particular, one simulator which is located only 300 meters from the tower was of prime concern. The report covers possible coupling paths, an investigation of possible spurious outages during simulator operation. Specific measurements of the signal coupled onto signal lines were made, with the simulator being fired on countdown at FAA request. An investigation of the field inside the tower building was also made. Author
