Abstract:
In many physical problems which are described by time dependent partial differential equations moving discontinuities occur. In numerical calculations one often applies special schemes in the vicinity of these discontinuities. These methods are quite successful. However, no analytical justification had been available. In the report the authors succeed in supplying this justification for a rather realistic class of methods. General stability theorems are derived and special schemes are analyzed completely. The findings are also supported by numerical calculations. Author
