Radar, Satellite tracking systems, Calibration, Self operation, Errors, Least squares method, Equations of motionThe report describes a radar calibration procedure currently in use at the Air Force Eastern Test Range AFETR - a procedure which uses only a single radars own passive tracking data of two successive passes of a satellite in conjunction with the theoretical equations of motion, known physical constants and associated computer program. No external tracking data or externally computed ephemeris is involved. Under routine conditions the zero-set biases and mislevel are estimated to an accuracy of 20 feet in range and 0.03 milliradians in angles. Under good conditions five other radar error model coefficients can be determined to comparable accuracy. The present maintained accuracy level of the AFETR radars is described. Author
