Intensity modulated gram displays are often stored digitally for later display generation, or are displayed on devices of limited dynamic range. The display degradation when using a limited number of gray tones is thus of interest. An experiment was conducted to determine the degradation for hard- limited displays where only one-bit quantization is used. An effective increase degradation in recognition differential of about one decibel was measured for this system relative to a linear system, for both visual and electronic integration performance, for both linear and hard-limited data.
