The kinematics of rotating deformable solids are developed, and a conservation law is postulated. The general equations of motion for a deformable solid rotating about a fixed axis are obtained from this conservation law, which than serves as the theoretical basis for the derivation of suitable beam theories for rotating beams and shafts subjected to conservative and non-conservative loads. The effects of internal and external damping as well as gyroscopic inertial forces are included in the formulation. Author
