Five auroral particle detection systems for use on rockets have been constructed, and four of these flown and the data returned used to evaluate instrument performance. The systems consist of an electrostatic analyzer ESA for electrons of 1 to 20 or 16 keV, an electron scintillator-photomultiplier combination for 20 or 16 to 200 keV electrons, and either an ESA for 1 to 20 or 16 keV or a solid state detector for 0.2 to 3.8 MeV for protons.
