A fragment weight distribution formula is constructed by using available data. The formula involves one independent parameter, conserves mass, and uses the Mott distribution over a central portion of the weight range. Values of the parameter M, the average weight of fragments weighing more than one grain, are assigned to 24 explosive compositions, in one particular configuration. Typical values of M are 12 for Composition B, 17 for Tritonal, 17.5 for cast TNT, and 45 for Ammonium Nitrate - TNT 8020.
