A reconsideration of the surface structure problem is based on a re-evaluation of montmorillonite Fourier syntheses, on water structuring as revealed by recent Raman, NMR and dielectric investigations and a re-evaluation of data pertaining to swelling and b-axis changes of montmorillonites.
