In titanium alloy sheet assembly processes, diffusion-brazing stands intermediate between brazing proper and diffusion welding. It has a number of advantages over the latter process the operation is faster and requires application of compressive stresses only at low temperatures, where the alloy still has a high elastic limit and a high creep strength. In addition, prior interposition of layers of ductile metals renders the geometric precision and surface state requirements less streingent. Nevertheless, due to post-diffusion, the bonds acquire solidity under heat which seems sufficient to resist stresses affecting a titanium alloy aircraft structure.
