In the high speed regime the performance of an ejection seat is limited by two factors the structural strength of the escape system and the ability of the crowman to withstand the stresses imposed upon him during escape. The first factor is not independent of the second. The seat designer must not overdesign his structure to compensate for sizable unknowns concerning the survival capabilities of the crewman. A discussion is made of the limitations of the crewman that effect his survival during high speed escape.
