Abstract:

The spinal injury potential associated with a specific egress system design is influenced by multiple parameters, including the acceleration environment, the mechanical characteristics of body support equipment, and the distribution of the acceleration environment to the segments of the human body. An experimental and analytical effort was conducted to quantitatively describe the influence of these parameters and establish improved design criteria for egress system components. Two acceleration simulators, and upward ejection tower and a vertical drop tower, were used to provide test environments. The mechnical response of each subject was measured during the acceleration by mounting force transducers the subject and the structure of the test seat. Modified author abstract
