Abstract:

As a result of the extensive measurements of in-and- down scattered radiation in the basement of a 20ft x 10ft building, an empirical basement ceiling attenuation factor, B sub cX sub c, omega, was developed by Eisenhauer. Because of differences noted between this Laboratorys experimental data and that of other investigators who used scale model cylinders, it was thought that there may be some shape dependency in the basement ceiling attenuation factor. To test this theory, basement ceiling attenuation factor measurements were made in buildings with 41 and 11 eccentricity ratios and aboveground wall heights of 2 ft, 4 ft and 8 ft. The results of these measurements were compared to existing 21 length-to-width measurements and with Eisenhauers empirical formulation. Modified author abstract
