Abstract:

The effect of the type of deformation on the recrystallization and subsequent grain growth of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn was investigated for tension, compression, and swaging. The amount of cold work as measured by true strain was kept constant for each type of deformation. After annealing the specimens at 1600F 871C for 30 minutes, the deformed tensile specimens had the smallest grain size, compression had the largest grain size, and swaging had a grain size between the other two.
