Abstract:
The report deals with the geotechnical properties of some foundation soils, determined through laboratory and field tests. On the basis of subdivision of soils into two groups in terms of their makeup characteristics, the authors particularly examined the parameters of cutting resistance, determined from triaxial tests of the nondrained type, performed on isotropically consolidated cylindrical samples for each group, the authors give typical values of the cohesion and the friction angle and they determine some correlations between these parameters and the plasticity of the soils under examination. Finally, they take up various methods of permissible load value calculation and, by comparing them, they give the results obtained from determinations made on the basis of data from triaxial tests, from rupture loads derived from compression resistance tests with free transversal dilation and from parameters furnished by penetrometric tests conducted with the conical-point penetrometer of the type recommended by Terzaghi and Peck.
