Abstract:
The report includes three parts a closed form, sharp estimate for the breakdown of an initially smooth one-dimensional, time-dependent flow with various applications a way to find where and when shocks appear in multi-dimensional flows an analysis of a magnetohydraulic analogy to plasma flow where the dependence of the breakdown point on the physical parameters is given as well as a family of similarity solutions of the flow equations formulated in lagrangian coordinates. The report is organized in three self-consistent parts, leading from a mathematical analysis of two independent variables e.g., one spatial coordinate and time through many variables e.g., two and three space dimensions and time to an application and further analysis and calculation of a specific axial magnetohydraulic flow simulating various aspects of plasma flows of possible use in technological applications.
