Abstract:

Conventional polishing machines have three independent adjustments which could greatly influence the rate at which a quality optical lens can be produced. These adjustments are the rotational speed of the lens block, the cycling rates of reasonable speculation, since these adjustments are left to the discretion of the individual machine operator, is that spelling out an optimum machine setting could increase the rate of finishing a lens. This report summarizes the results of an engineering study to investigate the effects of varying these adjustments. It was found that the rate of polishing is largely influenced by the speed of rotation of the lens block and by the pressure the polisher and the lens block, and not by the rate of polisher oscillation.
