Abstract:

The examination of 270 fetuses obtained from 39 rabbits experimentally infected with cyst-forming Toxoplasma strains between the 267th day before mating and the 7th day before parturition for toxoplasma yielded the following results During the period from the 267th to the 35th day before mating intrauterine transmission did not occur. Fetuses were found to harbour toxoplasms if the experimental infection of the mothers had taken place not earlier than 32 days before mating 3 out 25. Experimental infection during the first two decades of the gestation period regularly gave rise to intrauterine infection 51 out of 60 fetuses. Intrauterine transmission was less common after experimental infection during the last decade of the gestation period 19 out of 55, and there was none if the mothers had been infected only a few days before parturition.
