Abstract:

This paper describes some recent findings in the mechanics of gas-surface interaction, and some experimental techniques developed for their laboratory study. It stresses the exchange of energy and momentum at the surface and incidentally suggests some of the molecular interactions which occur at orbital or entry velocities.
