Magnetic, x-ray and neutron diffraction studies were made to determine the magnetic and structural effects produced by substitution of Fe for Co in intermetallic compounds of the CaCu5-type structure with space group P6mmm. Compounds of ThCo1-xFex5 and YxLa1-xCoyFe1-y4.5-5.0 were prepared by various induction methods and then annealed. The samples were characterized by x-ray powder analysis and metallographically. The easy axis of magnetization was determined by x-ray diffraction of powdered specimens oriented in a magnetic field. In all cases the axis is found to be vector c. Modified author abstract
