Abstract:
A projectile accelerated to a velocity of 1 mmmicrosec by a helium-driven gun was used to generate a magnetic field of 1.3 MG, using the technique of flux compression. The design of the flux-compression device was optimized with the aid of a simplified theory. This theory was used to investigate the relationship of maximum field to coil geometry, seed field, and projectile velocity. Author
